Talking about the Things That Matter Most on May 14

4:00 – Kresta Comments

4:20 – Next Acts in the Legionary Drama
Over the past year, members and friends of the Legionaries of Christ and its affiliated lay movement, Regnum Christi, have worked hard in trying to “save what can be saved” from the wreckage created by revelations that the founder of these communities, Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado, lived a vicious and duplicitous life of moral turpitude for decades, during which he fathered several children; sexually abused seminarians; violated the canons respecting the Sacrament of Reconciliation; deceived popes, curial officials, bishops, his brother Legionaries, and the lay members of Regnum Christi; and funded all of this by the misdirection of contributions given to support the religious work of the communities that called him Nuestro Padre or Nuestro Padre Fundador. On May 1, the Holy See released a statement on the Legion case and the initial steps being taken to save what can be saved. George Weigel has an analysis.

4:40 – “Robin Hood”
Oscar winner Russell Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as Robin Hood, whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. And whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people. Steven Greydanus is here with the review.

5:20 – Heroic Media – Making a Difference in Changing Opinion on Abortion
Heroic Media is a faith-based non-profit that reduces abortion by creating a Culture of Life through television, billboard and internet advertising which connects women in crisis with life-affirming pregnancy centers. In April 2004, Brian Follett founded Majella in Austin, Texas with the goal of reducing abortion through mass media education. He’d seen it work in other states like Wisconsin, Missouri and Pennsylvania and believed that if women in crisis could learn of hopeful alternatives, they would choose life. Since then, the abortion ratio has dropped 24 percent in markets where our campaigns have consistently run. Brian joins us.

5:40 – Cross International Catholic Outreach – The Kobonal Haiti Mission
Cross International Catholic Outreach is an international Catholic relief and development ministry that assists the poorest of the poor around the world, reaching countless souls with the love of Christ and the message of the “good news’ of salvation. They work in more than 40 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Cross International President Jim Cavnar is here to talk about their Kobonal Haiti Mission. The mission provides good schools and clean water. Teen pregnancy is down; Voodoo has disappeared; and the village enjoys a vibrant Catholic community. But there is still a long way to go.

  1. Some questions work at odds to a purpose.
However I wish to ask does Catholic Relief Services give funding to Cross International?

  2. what the doctrine wrote about God christ child;
    Justin Martyr
"God speaks in the creation of man with the very same design, in the following words: ‘Let us make man after our image and likeness.’ . . . I shall quote again the words narrated by Moses himself, from which we can indisputably learn that [God] conversed with someone numerically distinct from himself and also a rational being. . . . But this offspring who was truly brought forth from the Father, was with the Father before all the creatures, and the Father communed with him" (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew 62 [A.D. 155]).

  3. So much of the reason to donate to CRS is because they are funding Catholic missions, nuns and outreach centers that adminster to the needy and I view it as a one-stop to do so much good versus trying to evaluate seperate charities that use direct mail because I'm on some Catholic list. There is alot to be feared in giving to many of these direct mail organizations as you can not, in many cases, find any relevant informaton on them or discern their fidelity and mission.

So with CRS, I assume their distribution to other Catholic organizations is inherent and wide and mostly good. Am I off track?

  4. Not that it should matter and maybe it is better if it is known that Cross International is a Protestant Organization. Check out their website.

  5. Cross Catholic International is a member of Cross International Alliance.

Check out the website and examine the relationships, board, etc.
    www.crosscatholic.org

    From the website:
Cross International Catholic Outreach is part of the Cross International Alliance – an ecumenical Christian effort founded to help the poor worldwide.

Cross International Catholic Outreach is also home to our special Preachers Program and our direct efforts to help Catholic priests and nuns with social ministries overseas.

Here are the preachers they send out: http://www.crosscatholic.org/index.php?submenu=Preachers&src=gendocs&ref=MeetPreachers&category=GetInvolved

"The Cross International Alliance is currently composed of two closely associated ministry partners –

Cross International Catholic Outreach, an organization structured to provide more direct focus for Catholics and

Cross International, an ecumenical organization with both Roman Catholic and Protestant leadership.

Key members of Cross International Catholic Outreach's board also serve on the board of directors for Cross International, ensuring the continuity and impact of their shared goals."

  6. P.S. The two organizations have a common history with Cross Catholic beginning in 2002. They have formed an inter-denominational alliance but have separate boards, donor lists, and finances.

  9. Thus, Cross Catholic International is not a Protestant organization.

As we as we respect the overall work of World Vision we passed over its willingness to sponsor Kresta in the Afternoon.
