Today on "Kresta in the Afternoon" for March 7, 2012

Talking about the "things that matter most" on March 7

4:00 – Super Tuesday Analysis
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are trying to make the most of a mixed Super Tuesday, each claiming a measure of victory but unable to settle the most tumultuous race for the GOP presidential nomination in decades. Romney narrowly won in pivotal Ohio, seized a home-state victory in Massachusetts, triumphed in Idaho, Vermont and Alaska, and won easily in Virginia - where neither Santorum nor Newt Gingrich was on the ballot. Kathryn Jean Lopez of National Review and the National Catholic Register is here for analysis.

4:20 – The Living Stations of the Cross
Experience the Passion like never before. Walk with Jesus on the Way of the Cross. Witness the Last Supper. Share in His agony in the Garden. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of His trial and crucifixion in the original musical production The Living Stations of the Cross. Live and feel the most important mystery of our faith. Now, with the approval of Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron, the production is again coming to the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. We talk with Kelly Nieto, producer and creator of the Living Stations and Kenny Watson, one of the cast.

5:00 – Who Is Sister Carol Keehan?
She has been photographed with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. She is frequently cited by the mainstream media as the ultimate authority on Catholic health care. She has consistently been in the top tier of “The 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare.” And she is credited with capturing the “Catholic vote” needed to pass the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. So, who is Sister Carol Keehan? And how did the Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul come to wield such power? Catholic journalist Ann Carey has the answers.

5:20 – Fighting the HHS Mandate: The Legal Route
The Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate has fueled debates over the Obama Administration's unwillingness to grant the necessary exemptions to religious institutions, forcing these institutions to pay for medical procedures that go against their religious beliefs. Ave Maria Law School Dean Eugene Milhizer is here to explain the HHS Mandate, its constitutional implications, and what part legal action plays.

5:40 – Super Tuesday Analysis
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are trying to make the most of a mixed Super Tuesday, each claiming a measure of victory but unable to settle the most tumultuous race for the GOP presidential nomination in decades. Romney narrowly won in pivotal Ohio, seized a home-state victory in Massachusetts, triumphed in Idaho, Vermont and Alaska, and won easily in Virginia - where neither Santorum nor Newt Gingrich was on the ballot. Gary Bauer is here for analysis.

  1. What Michael Medved said on March 7 about Rick Santorum --

"Why would it be Romney wins such huge majorities of Mormons, but Santorum, who is a very devout, very serious, thoughtful Catholic, loses the Catholic vote everywhere. You know what it is. I mean, I've talked to some of my Catholic friends. Rick Santorum reminds a lot of people about that annoying guy you see in church all the time who's a little bit holier than thou. And Rick Santorum is not in the mainstream for most American Catholics. He's not. And that's what your seeing with this Catholic vote."

  2. Al – have you seen that the HHS' own National Cancer Institute's website openly admits oral contraceptives increase risk of cancer in women? Pertinent links here:

  3. Hello Al, I love listening to your radio show, and all of the Catholic programming - especially EWTN! I would have liked to call you and speak to our Catholic brothers and sisters listening, because they need to hear this! How can Obama (the infanticide Senator) get even ONE Catholic vote? How did he get 53% of the Catholic vote in 2008? How can Catholics "get behind" Romney (the slanderous negative ad king) in the Primaries this year? The answer is CINO's ... that is Catholic In Name Only! Some of your callers said, "Rick Santorum just doesn't have what it takes to be Presidential;" or "I love Rick as a friend, but he just doesn't have what I expect when I think President." Al, what they are eluding to is what I will call "The Dishonesty Factor" or TDF. Romney oozes TDF, Obama is a master of TDF, Bill Clinton has a Ph D. in TDF. But Rick Santorum is honest to a fault. Your CINO callers that support Romney love the TDF Presidential appeal about Romney. They think that a powerful man is a dishonest man; and an honest man can never become powerful. (I guess that leaves out The Holy Spirit, Jesus and God.) I wonder how many of the CINO's who voted for Obama and Romney also use birth control and then recieve the Eucharest on Sunday in the state of mortal sin (as a result of using the pill and having sex). Al I hope you read my comments on the air, because I want the CINO's to be ashamed of themselves to the extent that they will repent and become more holy. At least go to confession on Saturday before going to Mass on Sunday.

    Sincerely,
    Chritopher Michael, Ohio

P.S. Lawrence O'Donnell seems more like a Larry or a Lenny to me. Al, I ask you and your listeners to join with me, and pray that Lenny will be filled with the Holy Spirit and that Lenny will see the Glory of God! Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, we pray for Lenny. Amen.
