Talking about the "things that matter most" on July 9

4:00 – 6:00 – Kresta Comments / Direct to My Desk
It’s your opportunity to set the agenda on today’s show by raising the questions that matter most to YOU. One topic of discussion will be the bestselling book 50 Shades of Grey. It is an erotic novel born out of the vampire Twilight series and has taken the world by storm. It has been called “mommy porn” yet has sold 20 million copies, has topped the NY Times bestseller list, has set the record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time surpassing the Harry Potter series, and is even being defended my some Catholics. Al has some comments about how dangerous this book is – far beyond books such as DaVinci Code and The Golden Compass.

Hi Al -- I'm so glad you are speaking about the book Fifthy Shades Of Grey. I did not know anything about it until friend phoned me to tell me about it a few months ago. When she told me I was shocked!! I preceeded to tell her I wouldn't be interested in that kind of reading and told her I was just in the middle of reading Joseph Pearse's book, 'Literary Converts To Catholocism'. Since then I've heard so much on the news and internet how much is is selling, etc. To tell you the truth it has turned me off this friend and I do not want to continue our friendship. I don't care if it means I'm a prude. I consider myself a Holy person or at least strive to be one. It's an uncomfortable situation, but I was straight with her about the fact that I would not buy or read a book like that, but she thnks it's funny! As I said, Al, I am so shocked that she reads this kind of filth that I want to end the friendship.

Thank you for speaking about this today. We can only pray for society.

God Bless you and thank you for your ministry. I listen to you everyday, you are a treasure!

  2. Is ending a friendship over a book that she read an appropriatr response? Was she condescending when u told her how u felt? Do u feel that your salvation or a clear avoidance of evil is at stake if u continue a friendship with her? If she is a clear bringer of temptation for you maybe she wasn't a good choice of friend to begin with?

  3. It's a long story. We were just friends because of our children being in school together.

It's not that it's an inappropriate response. It's, that I've come to a realization that we REALLY do not have anything in common.
