A memorial service for former US first lady Betty Ford has begun in Palm Desert, California.

Mrs Ford's casket being carried into St Margaret's Episcopal Church

Late president Gerald Ford's wife, who helped found a rehabilitation clinic that bears her name, died on Friday aged 93.

After a visitation by family members, a private memorial service was being held at St Margaret's Episcopal Church.

Among those attending included First Lady Michelle Obama, former president George W Bush, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former first lady Nancy Reagan.
