Talking about the "things that matter most" on Feb. 22
4:00 – Kresta Comments – Feast of the Chair of Peter
4:20 – Pope John Paul II: “Be open and docile to the gifts of The Holy Spirit”
Pope John Paul II said, "I want to cry out, 'Be open and docile to the gifts of The Holy Spirit' Accept with gratitude and obedience the charisms which the Spirit never ceases to bestow." Damian Stayne is the founder of the Cor Et Lumen Christi community in Britain and has been responding to that call for 11 years. His Charism School is a course to provide helpful teaching and training in some of the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. It focuses upon the Gifts of Prophecy, Word of Knowledge, healing and deliverance. He joins us to explain.
5:00 – American Patriots: Answering the Call to Freedom
The United States of America was founded and established by ordinary citizens just like you and me. In their struggle for independence, these heroic men and women willingly shed their blood, sweat, and tears--often sacrificing their own lives and fortunes in order to hand down the precious legacy of freedom we all enjoy today. Rick Santorum argues that now is the time for a new generation of American patriots to rise up and join in the fight. Now is the time for every American to return to the virtues, values, and ideals that formed our foundation of freedom, and enable America to remain a great nation, a powerful democracy, and a beacon of hope for the world. He joins us.
5:20 – The National March for Marriage
Plans for a national March for Marriage in downtown Washington are generating excitement building enthusiastic support. The National Organization for Marriage announced in late January that it would be hosting a March for Marriage in the nation’s capital on March 26. The date coincides with the first day of oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court in the case Hollingsworth v. Perry. The lawsuit challenges California’s Proposition 8, a state measure recognizing marriage existing solely between a man and a woman. Hollingsworth v. Perry is one of two cases on same-sex “marriage” that the nation’s high court will consider this year. The other challenges the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman for all federal purposes. NOM Cultural Director Thomas Peters joins us.
5:40 – Lenten Reading
As we continue through Lent, many are doing extra spiritual reading to prepare for the Passion and Resurrection. We talk with Fr. Dwight Longenecker about his book The Gargoyle Code - With one letter for every day in Lent from Shrove Tuesday to Easter Monday, this is a must read for the Lenten season. Fr. Dwight also offers some additional recommendations for Lenten reading.
