Talking about the "things that matter most" on October 9
4:00 – Catholics For Romney vs. Catholics for Obama
Since 1972, every single presidential candidate who has won the popular vote has also won the Catholic vote. But with Catholics making up one in every four voters, pinning down what exactly the Catholic vote is becomes tricky. Catholics no longer reliably vote for any one party, but historically, they have voted Democratic. In recent years the numbers change dramatically when you look at Catholics who attend Mass regularly – those voters are much more likely to vote Republican. Needless to say, the Catholic vote remains important in 2012. We hold a debate between two Catholic leaders who are on separate sides of this Presidential election - Deal Hudson of the PA Catholics Network and James Salt of Catholics United.
5:00 – Toward a New Political Paradigm: A Call for Catholics to Reform Politics
It goes without saying that, instead of the recent moves against religious liberty, government needs to give the churches freedom, encouragement, and help to bring about a moral rejuvenation of American culture without which other economic initiatives may be for naught. It also goes without saying that for such a new political paradigm to have a chance to take hold, truly public-spirited politicians would have to “teach” the public about the reasonableness, value, and necessity of it. They would have to get beyond simply rounding up votes for the next election and recover the long-lost educative function of politics. Franciscan University professor Stephen Krason is here to discuss how he believes Catholics can reform the GOP.
Voting for either Obama or Romney is both treasonous and sinful:
ReplyDelete“The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith.” ~ US President George Washington
“It is my firm conviction that the security of Israel is in the vital national security interest of the United States. And ours is an alliance based not only on shared interests but also on enduring shared values.” ~ US Presidential candidate Mitt Romney
“Those who threaten Israel threaten us. Israel has always faced these threats on the frontlines, and I will bring to the White House an unshakable commitment to Israel’s security.” ~ US President Barack Obama
“No Senate tradition has been more steadfastly maintained than the annual reading of President George Washington’s 1796 Farewell Address. In this letter to “Friends and Citizens,” Washington warned that the forces of geographical sectionalism, political factionalism, and interference by foreign powers in the nation’s domestic affairs threatened the stability of the Republic. He urged Americans to subordinate sectional jealousies to common national interests.
Foreign influence “serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.” “The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith.” ~ US President George Washington
I strongly believe that there is a need for political paradigm reform to form a true representation of the full-set of Catholic Christian morals in our political system. Reforming the Republican Party should be an option, but forming a new party should also be an option (there are many times in-which these parties are successful, even in non-parliamentary systems). There should be forums scheduled throughout the country for people to attend and discuss what the next steps should be in-terms of furthering this cause. These forums should be clearly advertised online, in many places, and there should be a clearly advertised blog or blogs on this matter as-well.
