In a slap in the face to pro-life women nationwide, the pro-abortion head of the Democratic party, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, called the pro-life women who spoke at the Republican convention this week nothing more than “shiny packaging.”
“I think we believe that women can see through that nice shiny packaging that the Republicans have been putting out there, through to what’s inside, which is really a disaster for women’s future, extreme policies,” Wasserman Schultz said in a press conference with pro-abortion activist Sandra Fluke.
“I think that they have every reason to be worried about the women’s vote,” Wasserman Schultz said. “Mitt Romney is dramatically and drastically behind in the women’s vote, and he deserves every bit of that gender gap.”
“I think they spent the week in infomercials for their candidates for 2016,” she said. “I mean I think the thing that I noticed the most about Tuesday and Wednesday night, was the parade of future leaders of their party who spent a tremendous amount of time promoting themselves, and took a very long time, if they ever did get to promoting their candidate, Mitt Romney.”
Pro-life, Republican women were happy to see the numerous pro-life women speakers such as Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and Ann Romney, Mitt Romney’s wife, share their views at the convention.
In an email to LifeNews, Emily Buchanan, director of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, responded to the Democratic chair.
“This is a pivotal election in defining what is in the interest of women. A majority of American women believe that abortion on demand is unacceptable,” she said. “President Obama and his extreme team in congress are out of step with the majority of women.”
Buchanan continued: “The SBA List just wrapped up a 5 state, 30 city bus tour where women in key battle ground states spoke out with one message: Obama does not represent the best interest of women and unborn children. Women can see who is really extreme on abortion.”
