5:20 – Supreme Court Sides with Church 9-0 in Landmark First Amendment Ruling
In what may be its most significant religious liberty decision in two decades, the Supreme Court on Wednesday for the first time recognized a “ministerial exception” to employment discrimination laws, saying that churches and other religious groups must be free to choose and dismiss their leaders and employees without government interference. Bishop William E. Lori, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ ad hoc committee for religious liberty, called the ruling “a great day for the First Amendment.” “This decision,” he said in a statement, “makes resoundingly clear the historical and constitutional importance of keeping internal church affairs off limits to the government — because whoever chooses the minister chooses the message.” We talk to attorney Mark Rienzi of the Beckett Fund, which argued this case.
5:40 – Good Girl Comeback
Chelsea Gheesling describes herself as a “real-life ‘good girl’”. Though she says she is far from perfect, she was blessed to hear a very important message at a young age….living a Good Girl lifestyle is the only way to true happiness and fulfillment. From that moment on, she was on a mission to be a “good girl” and bring as many as possible with her. She now has a ministry called “Good Girl Comeback” and joins us today.
