COMMENT TO HHS ON CONSCIENCE PROTECTIONS HERE!!!!

This is the final day in which the Department of Health and Human Services is accepting comments from the public on its proposed new rule regarding mandated coverage in insurance programs. The mandate would require insurance plans to include coverage for contraception, sterilization and some drugs that are abortifacients. Catholics of all stripes have been making the case since the day the rule was announced that the conscience exemption it contained was far too narrow. We now encourage everyone to make your voices heard TONIGHT.

  1. This conscience protection clearly excludes almost everyone, and the action clearly targets primarily Catholics. We feel targeted. This is the Church that is a large part of the foundation of even the Underground Railroad. I am appalled.

  2. I just sent this link to all the contacts from our parish. Please do the same and get the word out.

As Archbishop Chaput said in Render Unto Caesar “We Christians are in the world but not of the world. We belong to God, and our home is heaven. But we’re here for a reason: to change the world, for the sake of the world, in the name of Jesus Christ. The work belongs to us. Nobody will do it for us. And the idea that we can accomplish it without engaging in a hands-on way the laws, the structures, the public policies, the habits of mind, and the root causes that sustain injustice in our country is a delusion.” and
"The nature of the Gospel forces the church as a community and the individual Catholic as a believer to actively engage the world. That means all of it – including its social, economic, and political structures…[T]he Gospel will always seek to penetrate and convert human affairs."

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for Us.

  3. The conscious protection takes away the freedoms of those who serve large number of individuals.
People should not be forced to comply with choices that are harmful and even deadly. Those who follow strong moral values should have the right to follow them according to the constitution. This plan will do more harm than good.

  4. Since mandatory coverage for certain abortifacients is included in this health care plan, the plan would make every payer complicit in homicide. The burden of proof is on the United States Government to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the embryo in a human womb is not in fact a human being. Without that proof the Government risks implicating the American people in the mass murder of our own citizenry.

  5. I can't say it any better than Bill Gulich did above. I pray that this does not get passed.

  6. I CONCUR WITH THE FOLLOWING "requiring group health plans sponsored by religious employers to cover contraceptive services that their faith deems contrary to its religious tenets would impinge upon their religious freedom. ...some religious employers do not currently cover such benefits under their group health plan due to their religious beliefs."

The proposed regulatory wording restricts exemptions to churches, clearly not deeming faith-based service organizations such as medical providers and hospitals worthy of the same religious/conscience exception. All faith-based organizations must be allowed go live out their corporate beliefs.

I believe that abortion is infanticide, just another form of the tribal "honor killing" so abhorred by truly civilized people. Requiring coverage for contraception, sterilization and some drugs that are abortifacients is unacceptable.

  7. This also does not exempt the consciences of ordinary employers with Catholic convictions.

I tried to comment on the comment page, but the window for doing so disappeared and the page said, "this page no longer exists." Have they taken it down?
