4:40 – Rise of the Planet of the Apes / Captain America: The First Avenger
Catholic film critic Steven Greydanus says that 2 of the summer’s biggest blockbusters, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Captain America play as a sort of mirror image of each other. Instead of a research project intended to create an army of super-soldiers that, due to unforeseen misfortune, never gets beyond the prototype in Captain America, Apes offers a research project that produces an accidental prototype which eventually leads to an unforeseen army — not of super-soldiers but of super-apes, who of course do not champion the American way but will eventually destroy it. Think of the famously iconic climatic image from the original 1968 Planet of the Apes — the downfall of everything Captain America represents. Steven is here to review both.

5:20 – Catholicon – One Gospel. Many Channels.
Since the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago, she has always sought to use all forms of human communication to advance Our Lord’s command to make disciples of all nations. CatholiCon brings all of the traditional forms in which The Church communicates as well as the new forms of media that bring the Gospel to the emerging Digital Continent. It’ll be expo style, which means that attendees will be able to browse the floor, looking at the latest in new media gadgetry, hang out in a coffeebar environment, or attend the keynotes and workshops. Co-founders Fr. Christopher Decker and Josh LeBlanc are here to discuss Catholicon.
