MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell Breaks Down in Tears Over Thought of Planned Parenthood Defunding
Instead of "relying on Planned Parenthood for (her) birth control" how about you just don't have sex out of wedlock? BTW, Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms. See the videos below.
How about you join the real world and recognize that yes, people do have sex out of wedlock. Would you rather that those people - many of whom are not Catholic, Christian, or religious believers at all - simply not use birth control? What if a service like Planned Parenthood - that offers cheap or free healthcare and contraception to those who may not be able to get it anywhere else - were to no longer exist? Would you just say "You deserve it" to those who chose to have pre-martial sex and get pregnant? Would you just say to that child "You deserve it" when he or she is forced to grow up with parents that aren't capable of taking care of them because they hadn't planned for it and weren't in shape to be a parent, but still chose to have sex, as is their right as people? You may not agree with pre-marital sex, but that doesn't mean everyone has to follow your belief system. Such ignorance of the views of others is astounding.
ReplyDeleteThe Bible preaches compassion and empathy for all - not just the people you agree with or that follow the same believe system as you. Selective enforcement of this basic tenant of the Catholic faith is extremely hypocritical.
The everyone is doing argument is pretty weak. People will kill people whether or not we have laws against killing. People will steal whether or not we speak out against stealing. People will have pre-marital sex whether or not you tell them not to but that doesn't mean you stop telling them too. I think you get the point.
ReplyDeleteWhen it is children you could consider the analogy of an armed versus un-armed bank robery. While we agree it is better if non-lethal force is used to rob a bank than using lethal force it doesn't mean we sit outside a bank we know will be robbed and hand out realistic looking water pistols. To do so would be to condone the problem.
While I agree with you that compassion and empathy is supposed to be preached towards all it doesn't downplay the necessary role of truth. Pope Benedict said one of the underlying problems of the Catholic church sexual abuse scandals was a desire by officials in the church to place compassion and empathy above justice and truth. This diminished view of truth was actaully a diminished view of love. That's the point Al is making. Let's affirm martial love and wonderful gift that children are outside of marriage rather then affirm a reduction of the percieved real world consequences.
-John Kopinski
As a note, Janet Smith was the one that came up with the robbery analogy. I just borrowed it.
