Archbishop Timothy Dolan Has Been Elected to a Three-Year Term To Serve As President of the USCCB
This is an historic vote as no sitting vice-president has ever failed to be elected president except in one case when the vice-president was elderly and took his name out of contention. It would not be a stretch to say that this article by Tim Drake in the National Catholic Register had much to do with the history-making decision.
Thanks be to God!
ReplyDeletePraised be Jesus Christ. This is indeed a great day for the Church in America!
ReplyDeleteAbp Dolan is certainly better than Kicanas.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the USCCB had a special appeal for Haiti. Catholics in the US donated, in just one weekend in January, $82.6 million.
This special collection for Haiti was intended to be used for emergency relief and to rebuild the Church in Haiti.
In March, the USCCB Administrative Committee endorsed a proposal from the Committee on the National Collections and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to allocate 60% of the Special Collection to CRS for humanitarian assistance and 40% to the USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America for ecclesial needs.
After 11 months, only $1.3 million has gone to Haiti.
How can we trust anything the USCCB does? Abp Dolan was Chair of the CRS.
I'm so thankful that the USCCB has no authority over the lives of any Catholics. The USCCB is not the Church Magesterium.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I wish they could not FORCE each Diocese to contribute to their 300+ employee bureaucracy.
The main role of Bishops is to teach and save souls, not to community organize and redistribute our donations.
Jesus never said for his "Apostles (Bishops)" to collect our money and use it as they see fit.
I was disappointed in an interview today when Abp Dolan said he wanted to be involved in politics.
ReplyDeleteThe "CCC 2nd Ed" is very clear that the Church is not to be confused in any way with the political community. And can only pass moral judgement in matters related to politics when the fundamental rights of man or the salvation of souls requires it.
(CCC 2245, 2246)
The Community Organizing, and Fund Raising, and Re-distribution of donation money, and influencing legislation on "illegal" aliens, and fake global warming, is not in accord with the "CCC 2nd Ed.
See "Obama's Counterfiet Catholics" by RealCatholicTV on the net.
I have very little hope for the USCCB right now, and they will not get one penny from me in their collections for the CCHD, Catholic Relief Services, Peter's Pence. etc.
The USCCB should not need a Staff larger than 50 to comply with our Catechism.
Do you have internet links for the stats on the Haiti donations? I would like to hear more about that.

"In the face of great tragedy and at a time of great economic stress at home, Catholics across the country donated, in just one weekend in January, $82.6 million. This report was also given live at the USCCB Assembly Meeting. I watched it on EWTN.
