Two leading American Vatican-watchers offered frank criticism of Vatican public relations and management policies, at a November 15 forum in Washington.

"The Vatican communications debacle has to end," said author George Weigel. He went on to say that the question of how to remove incompetent bishops from their diocesan leadership posts is “the single biggest management problem in the Church today.” John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter struck a similar note in his discussion of the sex-abuse crisis, noting the unwillinginess of Church leaders to criticize their peers. He said: "If you want to say Benedict is the reformer, you have to explain the opposition he faced in the Vatican, what he did to overcome other officials and what those others did wrong. They have no way in their culture, no vocabulary, for saying anything critical about each other."

The Monday discussion took place at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, where Weigel is a senior fellow.

  1. For the most part the "National Catholic REPORTER" is a Nancy Polosi supporting bunch of heretical Catholics.
The refuse to report anything of significance from the "Cathechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition"
which all Catholics are required to believe.

There is no way the Pope is going to air all the Church's dirty laundry so the NCR, NY Times, etc can have a field day.

However, I fully support ALL Bishops and Priests involved in child abuse being removed from their positions and being denied any retirement benefits.

I also fully support the Pope being able to remove any Cardinal or Bishop who publically speaks or acts contrary to anything in the CCC 2nd Ed - after a closed door trial including a right to defense.

A Bishops'job is to teach and save souls. And if he is acting contrary to Church teachings he no longer deserves a job with the Church.

  2. The Vatican needs a modern public relations apparatus. While it is comforting that the Church is not using "spin doctors", the avoidable blunders and miscues between Curia dicasteries are hindering the Church's mission, and making the Church and her leaders look foolish. Something needs to be done.

  3. Removal of heretical or incompetant Bishops within an appropriate time frame is best. It should not take years to do anything. A bad Bishop loses rather than saves Souls.

The Pope owes the NC Reporter nothing. They love public controversy so they can complain about the Church, and are stuck on child abuse - old news.
